The snow is melting here in Edmonton and with the melt comes spring allergies.  Often patients are aware if they have seasonal allergies because of their runny nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes.  Although oral medications can be very effective for dealing with systemic symptoms of allergies, they may not be the ideal choice for ocular allergies.  Sometimes discomfort is better treated with an eye drop.

Many drops advertise as being helpful for allergies, but they are not all created for every patient.  See your Optometrist to determine which drop is right for you.  The newer prescription allergy drop is used once a day and is very effective at treating ocular allergies.

You may not also be aware, but exams for itchy eyes are covered by Alberta Health at any age.  Book an exam today!
